The Greatest Country Ever In The World?

If I had a dollar for every time I have heard well-intentioned people throughout the U.S. media; speaking or writing the platitude, "This [America] is the greatest country that is and ever was"...I would have quite a tidy sum of them. Every time I hear this opinion, usually spouted so carelessly; I reject it as a true statement. Especially, when I hear my Christian brothers regurgitate this same, tired notion to listeners or readers that are assumed to be eager to hear the proud cry of nationalism with such bravado.

As a Christian, I endeavor to stand for the Truth; which I do not find in the above quote. Only the Lord knows what is truly motivating the heart of an individual. I am not here to judge a person, but to refute a statement.

I am generally disgusted by uttered statements that stem from arrogance, ignorance, and are self-serving; instead of edifying. Jesus said "For out of the abundance of the heart one's mouth speaks". Because speech is powerful, all of us; and especially those of us who publicly write or speak out on the media; should be careful not to utter idle words. As Christians, we should understand our accountability towards God in this matter.

As a follower of Christ, the Most Humble; I do not hear or see my Lord spouting nationalistic platitudes to draw crowds. If anyone had the right to boast about His Nation, Israel; He certainly did. Yet, being the very Christ; full of Wisdom, Truth and Love Himself....He endured perfectly; with all humility and obedience with the most amazing display of His Grace and Self Control...even to the Cross...without boasting...and His Resurrection and Truth and Life still marches on!

There are many respectable and honorable things from U.S. history to speak well of. We should give honor to those who are honorable. There has obviously been economic incentives, security benefits, and certain human rights offered here; they have been enjoyed by many immigrants and citizens. Jesus said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Currently, and in U.S history; many of our societal norms and policies have continually manifested and maintained such enmity with God. What profit is it to gain the whole world (in admiration), but to lose one's soul (in hypocrisy)?

Israel, under King Solomon's rule; was truly a glorious "Nation under God". Yet, we can read in Ecclesiastes....[under the sun...All is Vanity]... no boasting there. Our Lord said it well..."And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these"...comparing that kingdom with the common lilies of the field. Scripture also teaches that God hates the sin of pride.

The "Land of the Free".....

1) consistently has had about half or better of all marriages end up in divorce....even among Christians. In 2012, the U.S has the sixth highest divorce rate in the world.

2) currently has an intentional murder rate of 4 to 5 times higher than almost every country in Western Europe.

3) has legal, human being abortions in every State.

4) has legal gambling and promotes it.

5) where, "proud" homosexuals are celebrated in city parades.

6) has a long history of slavery and labor abuse. Since the late 1970's; the lowest of low wages are paid to many workers (the U.S. minimum wage) at the same historical time when, common, yet unparalleled economic growth and prosperity is enjoyed by significant and powerful corporations (the U.S. stock market).

7) has perverted "usury" laws from a historically reasonable standard (any annual interest rate lower than 5%) to the height of greediness (payday loans). Currently, most credit card loans can demand annual interest of more than four times what is reasonable. The economically poor are frequently devastated financially because of these unjust laws.

8) has an embarrassing, inordinate amount of poverty and a tremendous national debt for such a historically rich and "blessed" nation.

9) has an inordinate amount of waste, violence, obesity, suicide, pollution (air, water, noise), pesticide use, farm failures, joblessness, homelessness, corruption in government, materialism, broken families, drug and alcohol addiction, blighted ghettos and toxic, sprawling suburbs; with their slow, stressful and dangerous, dinosaur technology (single car drivers) for mass transportation.... in it's "greatness".

10) has perverted a health care system into a market-driven and abusive "Sick Care Syndicate". Only a syndicate; would put a price on saving your life and lead many into bankruptcy court. One's quality of care; mostly depends upon the amount of insurance coverage that one owns. The shortage of doctors, nurses, and clinics is staggering, embarrassing, and devastating to quality care; especially for those who are not insured. Where is the love?

11) has an embarrassingly high illiteracy rate, an increasingly unstable currency and economy, an inordinate amount of interracial problems and issues, and misguided, inapt immigration policies. The ill effects of these and other factors; have generational consequences. How much money is left over to stimulate the economy, when so many underpaid people are paying forty five percent or more of their income for the cost of housing (shelter)?

12) where the vast majority of its people worship and give power to a "market" that has inordinately perverted the value of labor to the highest imaginable extremes between the underpaid and the overpaid workers. The U.S housing market has continually perverted the value of the basic human need of shelter into a greedy, land-grabbing, and embarrassing national disgrace. The real estate "market" is easily artificially manipulated to new highs; by the tremendous purchasing power of our growing wealthy and overpaid group that forces too many out of the "market".

This "market" of inherent greed and corruption continually self-destructs. For every millionaire the housing market makes; it also increases the poverty of hundreds, if not; thousands. How do people in the "richest and greatest" country decide that it's OK to equate a purchase of shelter with a back-breaking down payment and thirty years of debt? But, don't worry; the crooked U.S. government will subsidize your inflated real estate mortgage with another tax loophole; for the steadily shrinking group with jobs and credit scores that can afford such a purchase.

13) invented and endorsed the incredibly perverted television and radio system. It relies on artificially inflated, market-driven advertising costs (that are deducted as a business expense for income tax and absorbed into the consumer's price paid for most goods and services) to operate the system, while also driving the fake "market" that it helps to create. In exchange for a "free" medium; that often, is too disgusting and immoral to even talk about; the viewer must watch and listen to overpaid executives attempting to sell many overpriced and/or unnecessary things over and over... again?...ad nauseum.

14) is insecure. An enormous and inordinate amount of money, energy and human life has been continually given in service to our "national defense" and the many commitments to avoidable military interventions. Yet, we charge no fee for border crossing and have minimal border security. Diplomatic solutions to conflict are generally viewed by many in Congress to be "weak".

15) where, in some places, it is easier to buy a semi-automatic rifle than to purchase some cold medications...while voting is getting harder to do, in some places.

16) has more people in prisons than any other country in the world.

17) has an inapt Constitution. It's an out-dated document, which has NO provision for it's unavoidable vulnerability to ambiguity, political gridlock and corruption that has been rampant in the Congress and Supreme Court for decades. It has created a virtual machine of gridlock and an unequal balance of power in government. It has allowed the love of money and power to rule in place of public service. Instead of progressive change for all; the quality of urban life here continues to decline for the vast majority of us who are not affluent.

18) needs to agree that a "great" country does not have blighted, crime-ridden cities that go into bankruptcy.

19) worships entertainment "celebrities"; yet barely supports education. This country has decided to spend many billions of dollars on "space"; instead of bullet trains down here. These are just two examples of a "great" country; foolishly valuing the temporal much greater than that which is lasting.

20) allows members of congress to use a ploy in the form of political terrorism to shut down the whole government. The shutdown causes a whole nation to groan under the embarrassing rule of the contemptible in congress and displays one of the most fatal flaws of the inapt "congressional rules".

21)  [The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the SOCIALIST minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931)]...its arrogance is chilling....he could have written it for Hitler as well. And we all were "forced" to recite it at school....but they took prayers away....

....Anything less than " I pledge allegiance to Jesus Christ"....is blasphemy to those who know Our One True God.
....So; our so called, "Christian Nation"...ignorantly, forced its children to utter such arrogance and blasphemy to start school each day....This is why the history of arrogant U.S. foreign policy of elective wars.....is not too hard to understand....

With just twenty one embarrassing statements; I have to stop because I am exhausted.... I could go on and on with so much more sobering evidence for the case against the people who have chosen to spout these tired and warped platitudes of U.S nationalism that ring hollow to those with "hearing ears".

A citizen of a "Nation" that is truly great; overflowing with humility from the knowledge of the Mercy and Grace in Christ, ironically, would not need to boast. Jesus said, "The greatest among you shall be your servant." and..."You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?"
My advice to readers (hearers) is to listen to a Word from the mouth of God, instead of zealots; who obfuscate the true spiritual greatness of a "Nation" chosen by the Eternal God by uttering obtuse, nationalistic slogans. I am not here to state my opinion, but I rely on Truth from Holy Scripture of the Bible.

Now, in short order I can make the case for truly the greatest "Nation"...as revealed below...The Kingdom Of God...
According to the Truth of God's Word:

1) (1 Peter 2:9)... addressed to God's chosen people..."But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light"....

2) (1 Cor. 12:12,13,27)... addressed to Christians..."For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13) For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - Jews or Greeks, slaves or free - and all were made to drink of one Spirit. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it."

3) (Ephesians 2:11-19)...addressed to Christians..11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that He might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,4 but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

4) In addition to the above Scripture; Romans 11 teaches us that through Christ, the Gentiles are "grafted" into Israel; spiritually speaking.

I pray that Our God and Father will give to all who seek; the spirit of wisdom and knowledge of Him by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
